Showcasing unique 1800s’ Gothic Revival features, The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora is home to a number of venues from smaller meeting rooms, to exhibition spaces, a creative messy space and a national taonga, the Great Hall.

 

 

Great Hall

The award winning Great Hall is a magnificent venue for special events; such as weddings, performances, dinners, presentations and corporate events. It offers a unique heritage setting with proven acoustics and wonderful surroundings.

Capacity: 50 – 217 people seated.

 

Rutherford’s Den Lecture Theatre

A completely restored, original Victorian lecture theatre from the 1870s with wooden bench seating, wood panelling, original windows and beautiful brickwork, it has a unique historic atmosphere. 

Capacity: 70 people seated.

 

Clock Tower Boardroom 

A beautifully designed space in the iconic Clock Tower building (1877). The Clock Tower Boardroom provides a unique heritage setting showcasing native timber, large bay window overlooking the North Quad, and a stunning decorative fireplace. This space is ideally suited to smaller meetings and networking events. It can also be used as an additional space to Rutherford’s Den Lecture Theatre for entertaining guests.

Capacity: 30 people standing.

 

Maker Workshop

One of the newest spaces in the recently restored School of Art building, the Maker Workshop is a light and bright community space that fosters creativity for a broad range of creative activities – classes, workshops and more.

Capacity: 50 people, includes workbenches, drying racks and easels.

 

Pūmanawa Community Exhibition Space

Located in the Boys’ High building among independent retailers and artisan workshops. The building was originally built in 1881 and has been fully restored and strengthened post-earthquake. This is the perfect exhibition space for arts, culture, heritage, social and history related artistic endeavours.

Exhibition space – maximum capacity is 75 people, the room is 117 square metres (13.2m x 8.9m)
